Intimate Anarchy Play Reading Series

Following the 2024 Presidential election, A Short Leap’s Ensemble began to feel an even stronger need for community spaces than may have been present before. This led to A Short Leap’s first Intentional Night of Community. Looking back on history in meetings since the election, a shared sentiment echoed: “Anarchy starts intimately.”

Theatre, sharing ideas, creating community: all of this is anarchist behavior. A Short Leap’s Intimate Anarchy reading series will feature a series of scripts that feel topical in today’s society. All plays will focus on the power we have as individuals; and in building community– one of A Short Leap’s founding principles.

Come join our community as we create Intimate Anarchy.

Submissions open until June 15.

A Short Leap Theatre is seeking new, unproduced plays that defy the medium of a ten-minute play to connect intimately with the greater Chicagoland area. Currently, we are accepting play submissions that will be considered for stand readings until June 15th.

If you'd like to act with us, keep an eye out for open submissions later this summer! Join us in November for this special one-night-only event celebrating theatre, anarchy, and community!

Set in the fictional world of a post-second Civil War, Bronx Bay, an all-black state (and neighborhood) is established in order to protect "blackness."

It's a utopia but enforcing utopia proves to be tricky when it comes to defining who is Black and who isn't.
