Carmia Imani
Carmia Imani (she/her) is a Chicago-based actor, poet, and producer. She graduated from Ball State University with a BFA in Acting and now mentors students of color as an Alumni Ambassador, dedicated to breaking down barriers to higher education. Her regional acting credits include Clearing (A Short Leap Theatre Co.), Field of Flesh (Leisure), brother sister cyborg space (u/s, Raven Theatre), Skeleton Crew, Death of a Salesman (The Black Rep), and Much Ado About Nothing (u/s, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company).
Carmia produced, wrote, and directed a poetry film about police brutality and racism, AmeriKKKa, which won Best Film at the Hoosier Films Annual Festival in 2021. She is a proud Ensemble Member of A Short Leap Theatre Company and a Company Member of PlayGround-Chicago. Carmia is committed to advocating for radical change, embracing discomfort, and integrating anti-racist theatre practices into her artistry and work.
In her free time, she enjoys writing poetry, dancing, playing The Sims 3, and drinking strawberry milkshakes (in all seasons).
